The man who nearly died when a trench he was working in, collapsed onto him last week in Allentown is now out of the hospital. "It's a wonderful feeling. It's a great day," says Mark Espenshade, who is Jason Hansell's father-in-law and says Hansell was released from Lehigh Valley Hospital Sunday afternoon. There is no word on when Hansell will be able to work again. A GoFundMe page has been arranged to assist with medical bills.
A teenager is dead following a shooting at a movie theater in the Poconos. The shooting happened this past Saturday night inside Laurel Mall Regal Cinema in Hazle Township. Police say a 19-year-old man was shot and killed in the lobby-arcade area of the theater and the suspect fled the area. Any one with any information on the incident is being asked to contact State Police in Hazleton immediately.
A person is recovering at the hospital in critical condition following a skiing accident in the Poconos. The incident happened yesterday at Camelback Resort. Officials say a 25-year-old person had to be flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital as they were "unconscious and bleeding from the head."
A chapter of an international women's group is raising money in Easton so that people in Ukraine can have heat and electricity. The Ukrainian National Women's League of America says people inside the country usually have only three hours daily of sporadic heat and electricity. The Easton chapter is requesting donations to buy generators as well as taking in warm blankets to send. Both will be accepted at the Cornerstone Estate on Freemansburg Avenue through this Thursday.

Residents picking up alcoholic beverages in the Keystone State this week may notice an increase in price. Effective Sunday, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board increased the prices on all forms of alcohol by four-percent. That includes adult beverages sold in bars, restaurants and local liquor stores. The decision to increase prices was made last year, in part, due to inflation and increased operating costs.
State officials are updating Pennsylvania's medical-marijuana ID cards. According to a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of Health, all medical-marijuana ID cards printed after the first of the year are sporting a new design. Previous versions of the card will remain valid until users are prompted to renew their IDs in the coming months. Authorities stress that users won't need to update their cards until they expire.

State and federal agencies, including the post office, are closed, as are city offices and the state legislature. Schools across the area are out for the holiday, too. For the first time since 2012 the New York Giants won a playoff game Sunday. The Giants beat Minnesota 31-24, with Whitehall High grad Saquon Barkley scoring two touchdowns. He spoke with Fox after the win. "The mindset is to come in here, do what we want to do, come out of here with a win, celebrate on the way back, watch film and get ready for Philly," Barkley said. The Giants will visit the Eagles in round two of the NFL Playoffs.
Penn State football coach James Franklin has fired wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield, effective immediately. In a statement, Franklin says, "I would like to thank Taylor for his efforts during his time with Penn State but feel it is in our program's best interest to make a change at this time." Franklin will immediately begin a national search for Stubblefield's replacement.
